| Prune
harvest begins mid August. Our prunes are harvested mechanically.
The harvester can shake two trees a minute. See
our harvester! The
harvester collects the fruit and transfer's it into field bins. See how the bin is
unloaded! The
full bins are left in the orchard for the bin carrier to pick up. See the bin carrier!
When the bin carrier has six bins, it comes into
the dehydrator to unload. See
bin carrier come in and unload! A
forklift stages the field bins for the dehydrator. The prunes are
dumped one bin at a time into fresh water. See
the first step in drying! The
prunes are washed, then run a crossed the deleafer to remove sticks and
leaves. See the deleafer! The
prunes are loaded onto trays and stacked on cars, ready to go in the
dehydrator. See the stacker!
Our dehydrator has four dehydrating
tunnels. See the
tunnels! Once the prunes are
dried, they are checked for moisture and allowed to cool. The
prunes are then scrapped from the trays. See
our scrapper! The empty
trays continues down the line to be refilled and the dry fruit is elevated
to a dry fruit bin. See our dry fruit
bin! When the dry fruit
bin is filled it is stored in our warehouse.
Our new crop year begins in October and runs throughout the year. New for 2000, moist pack prunes. These are pitted prunes especially packaged at 34% moisture. They are packed 12 by 12 ounce packages per case and sold under the Mornin' Glory label. |
